Overview
Morocco Atlas Mountains – Mt. Toubkal | Mountain Medicine CME
May 3rd – May 14th, 2027
Step into Morocco’s most iconic landscapes on a 12-day expedition that blends high-altitude Mountain Medicine CME with a summit attempt of Mt. Toubkal (4,167m / 13,671 ft) — the highest peak in North Africa.
Your journey begins in Marrakech, where ancient alleyways, rooftop mint tea, and the pulse of the medina set the tone for what’s ahead. Then you’ll trade city rhythm for snow-dusted ridgelines and Berber mountain villages as we move into the High Atlas to train where it counts: in the field, under real environmental stressors, with daily education and hands-on skills woven into the trek.
After the mountains, the route continues into Morocco’s dramatic southern terrain — from valleys and kasbahs to the edges of the Sahara — where the environment shifts and your learning expands into heat illness, dehydration, and austere care in remote settings. This is more than a course. It’s a full-spectrum wilderness medicine experience designed to challenge your clinical thinking, your fitness, and your sense of adventure.

Physical Requirements (Important)
Excellent physical fitness with the ability to hike multiple consecutive days at altitude
Previous hiking or outdoor experience strongly recommended
Prior altitude exposure preferred, though not mandatory
Comfort in remote environments with limited access to medical care
Willingness to participate in a true expedition-style course, not a luxury vacation
This trip is not recommended for
Individuals with minimal fitness or limited hiking experience
Those uncomfortable with altitude, physical exertion, or variable weather
Participants seeking a sightseeing-only or luxury travel experience
Anyone unwilling to accept the inherent risks of trekking and wilderness travel
People who prefer predictable schedules and controlled environments
Group Dynamics
This is a small-group, highly inclusive expedition built on shared challenge, curiosity, and mutual support. Days are spent learning, moving, and problem-solving together, which naturally builds strong camaraderie. Participants regularly arrive solo and leave with lasting friendships, feeling fully welcomed regardless of background, profession, or prior expedition experience.
The Experience
The Experience
This is not just a course — it’s a true expedition through some of Morocco’s most powerful landscapes.
Over 12 days, you’ll move from the sensory overload of Marrakech to the thin air of the High Atlas Mountains, trekking village to village as you train, climb, and ultimately attempt the summit of Mt. Toubkal. Along the way, wilderness medicine education is woven directly into the terrain — taught where the consequences, conditions, and decisions are real.
Every step of this journey blends adventure, learning, culture, and connection, creating an experience that feels both challenging and deeply rewarding. Days are active and immersive, evenings are filled with shared meals, reflection, and learning, and the group quickly becomes a tight-knit expedition team.
Train Medicine Across Mountains and Desert
What sets this trip apart is the environmental diversity. You won’t just learn mountain medicine at altitude — you’ll then carry those skills into southern Morocco and the Sahara, adapting your thinking to heat, dehydration, and austere desert care. This contrast deepens your clinical perspective and forces you to think dynamically as a provider, just as real expedition medicine demands.
Learn Where It Counts
Education on this trip happens in the field, not in a conference hall. Lectures, workshops, and discussions are intentionally placed at camps, lodges, and remote locations where altitude, fatigue, weather, and limited resources influence decision-making. Skills are practiced immediately, reinforced daily, and grounded in the reality of expedition medicine.
The Flow of Each Day
Morning movement or travel through cities, mountains, or desert landscapes
Active trekking days during the Mt. Toubkal ascent and descent
Scheduled breaks for learning, skills practice, and acclimatization
Evenings with education sessions, group meals, and recovery time
This rhythm balances physical challenge, learning, and sustainability, allowing you to stay engaged and energized across the full expedition.
What You’ll Take Home
Yes — you’ll earn CME. But you’ll also leave with:
Real confidence practicing medicine in austere, high-altitude environments
A summit attempt of North Africa’s highest peak
Expanded clinical judgment shaped by terrain, fatigue, and environment
A deeper appreciation for expedition-style teamwork and leadership
Friendships built through shared challenge and shared success
Most participants leave surprised that something this adventurous, meaningful, and transformative could also count as CME — and already wondering where the next expedition will take them.
