Carstensz Pyramid – A Seven Summits Attempt (16,023 ft)
Sept. 18 – Oct. 2, 2026
Join our Mountain Medicine CME expedition and rise above the rainforests of New Guinea to stand atop the highest peak in Indonesia and the tallest summit in Oceania/Australasia. This is the most exotic of the Seven Summits—an adventure defined by remote logistics, real altitude, and a true expedition feel.
We’ve built a 13-night / 14-day plan with built-in weather and contingency days to give you the best possible shot at success. Expect an exciting high-altitude rock scramble/climb, a summit push that starts in the early hours, and the kind of hard-earned accomplishment that only comes from committing to something big.
With our expert team and trusted local partners, we’re equipped to navigate the uncertainties this mountain is known for. You’ll also experience an amazingly rich local culture, plus a much-needed reset with a full rest day in Bali before transitioning through multiple flights and a helicopter lift into high camp.

Who It's For
Who It's For:
This expedition is designed for adventurous individuals who are comfortable in remote, high-altitude environments, want to challenge themselves on one of the Seven Summits, and are excited to learn mountain and wilderness medicine in a real expedition setting.
This trip is ideal for
High-altitude adventurers seeking a true Seven Summits-style climb
Participants should be motivated by remote objectives, complex logistics, and committing summit days rather than comfort or convenience.Medical professionals pursuing Mountain Medicine CME
Including physicians, PAs, NPs, nurses, medics, EMTs, and those pursuing or holding FAWM or similar wilderness medicine credentials.Experienced outdoor enthusiasts with prior hiking and altitude exposure
Individuals with a background in trekking, mountaineering, climbing, or expedition-style travel who want to deepen both technical and medical skill sets.Non-medical participants with strong mountain experience
Friends, partners, or spouses are welcome provided they meet the physical, technical, and expedition demands of the climb.
Physical Requirements (Important)
Excellent physical fitness — this is a very demanding expedition at altitude
Previous hiking and outdoor experience is required
Prior altitude exposure is strongly recommended
Basic technical climbing skills are required (harness use, fixed lines, ascenders, rappelling)
Comfort operating in remote environments with limited infrastructure and medical access
This trip is not recommended for
Individuals without prior hiking or mountain experience
Those new to altitude or unwilling to train for a physically demanding climb
Participants seeking a luxury, sightseeing-focused vacation
Anyone uncomfortable with exposure, steep terrain, or technical rope systems
Those unwilling to accept the inherent risks of remote mountaineering expeditions
Group Dynamics
This is a tight-knit, expedition-style group built around shared effort, mutual respect, and teamwork. Participants come from diverse medical and non-medical backgrounds, but all share a willingness to support one another through challenge and uncertainty. If you value camaraderie, humility, learning by doing, and earned success, you’ll feel right at home on this team.
The Experience
The Experience
This is not just a trek — it’s a full-scale Seven Summits expedition.
From equatorial rainforest to exposed limestone ridges, this journey places you deep into the logistical, physical, and mental reality of climbing Carstensz Pyramid. You’ll move through multiple countries, transition from modern comforts to true expedition living, and commit to a demanding summit push that rewards patience, preparation, and teamwork.
This is raw, complex, and deeply rewarding. The mountain dictates the pace. Weather matters. Logistics matter. And every step higher reinforces why this peak is considered the most exotic and logistically challenging of the Seven Summits.
From Rainforest to Rock — Helicopter Access into True Expedition Terrain
Unlike most climbs, this expedition blends urban travel, cultural immersion, and remote helicopter access into high alpine terrain. After rest and recovery time in Bali, you’ll transition through Papua before flying by helicopter directly into Yellow Valley Base Camp — surrounded by jungle-clad limestone spires and total isolation. It’s a rare, dramatic shift that sets the tone for everything that follows.
Learn Where It Counts
Mountain Medicine CME is delivered in the exact environments where these skills matter most. Education is hands-on, contextual, and directly tied to what’s happening around you — altitude illness, trauma management, evacuation decision-making, and expedition risk assessment. Learning happens at base camp, during acclimatization, and through real-time discussions shaped by the mountain itself.
The Flow of Each Day
Acclimatization hikes and skills practice around base camp
Hands-on medical teaching woven into expedition life
Early alpine starts and disciplined summit-day pacing
Weather holds and contingency planning as needed
Evenings focused on recovery, education, and team connection
This rhythm mirrors real expedition travel — deliberate, flexible, and responsive — giving the group the best chance for both safe decision-making and summit success.
What You’ll Take Home
Yes, you’ll earn CME — but you’ll also leave with:
A legitimate Seven Summits ascent attempt
Practical mountain medicine experience in extreme environments
Improved comfort with technical terrain and expedition logistics
A deeper understanding of risk, leadership, and team dynamics
Shared stories and bonds forged through challenge
Most people come home surprised by one thing:
“They didn’t expect something this wild, this demanding, and this meaningful to count as CME.”
