Canadian Bear Hunt — Wilderness Medicine CME Adventure
May 31 – June 7, 2027
Step into the remote wilds of northern British Columbia for a once-in-a-lifetime black bear hunting expedition combined with immersive wilderness medicine education. This 7-night / 5-day hunting CME adventure places you deep in vast, untouched Canadian backcountry while earning valuable continuing medical education alongside expert faculty and seasoned local guides.
Based out of the stunning lakefront camps of Compass Mountain Outfitters, this experience blends spot-and-stalk black bear hunting, hands-on wilderness medical training, and full-service lodge comfort in a region known for producing world-class trophy black bears. Days are spent in rugged mountain terrain and alpine valleys, followed by evenings of focused lectures, case-based discussions, and shared meals in a warm, welcoming backcountry lodge atmosphere.
This course is designed for those who want to practice real-world wilderness medicine in the environments where it actually matters. You’ll refine assessment, stabilization, evacuation, and decision-making skills while actively participating in a demanding and rewarding hunting experience. With limited access, expansive terrain, and expert logistical support, this is not a classroom simulation — it’s medicine, learning, and adventure fully integrated.

The Experience
This is not just a hunt — it’s a fully immersive wilderness medicine adventure set deep in remote Canadian bear country. Over the course of the week, you’ll move between rugged mountain terrain, pristine alpine valleys, and cozy backcountry camps while blending serious black bear hunting with hands-on CME education in the environments where these skills truly matter. Long days in the field, focused learning, great food, and shared challenges quickly turn this group into something that feels more like family than classmates.
Hunt Hard by Day, Learn Together by Night
What makes this experience unique is how seamlessly authentic hunting days transition into meaningful medical education. You’ll spend your days spot-and-stalk hunting in vast mountain zones known for producing exceptional black bears, then return to camp for structured lectures, case discussions, and skill-based learning. Comfortable base camp amenities — including hot showers, hearty meals, and warm bunkhouses — provide the perfect balance to intense days spent in the field.
Learn Where It Counts
Wilderness medicine is taught in context, not in a classroom. Educational sessions focus on realistic hunting-related injuries, environmental exposure, evacuation planning, and medical decision-making in austere settings. Learning alongside experienced Canadian guides and Wild Med Adventures faculty allows you to immediately connect theory to practice — reinforcing skills through real terrain, real fatigue, and real-world scenarios.

Active spot-and-stalk black bear hunting with local guides
Field-based learning moments and informal discussion
Return to camp for meals, lectures, and skills sessions
Evenings spent sharing stories, reviewing cases, and unwinding
This rhythm keeps the experience challenging, immersive, and sustainable, allowing participants to stay engaged both physically and mentally throughout the week.
